Vending in Tunisia is against the law. This particular day police confiscated Mohamed Bouazizi's fruit stand and reportedly slapped him in the face. With 8 family members that were relying on him, in acts of frustrated desperation he poured paint thinner on himself and lit a match. Setting himself on fire he went up in a blaze and later died on Jan. 4th. For justice he lit a match. He fought back, made a statement and in the process released the grasp of fear from many souls across the world. I appreciate Mohamed and shed tears for him and all those who are far more oppressed than myself. My ancestors went through the same thing for me and now they are doing what they must right now in present day. Surprisingly, with the help of social media-facebook, twitter and web sites the movement has spread, the personal feel of it can grow, pictures can spread, words can be seen from everywhere. Thank you. From Cairo, TIME correspondent Abigail Hauslohner reports on the recent protests against the government and provides a broader view of what is at stake for Egypt and US relations in the Middle East.

Facebook has just announced that it has raised $1.5 billion in venture funding from Digital Sky Technologies, Goldman Sachs and clients of the investment bank. With this round, Facebook is officially worth $50 billion. “Our business continues to perform well, and we are pleased to be able to bolster our cash position with this new financing,” Facebook CFO David Ebersman said in its announcement. “With this investment completed, we now have greater financial flexibility to explore whatever opportunities lie ahead.”
DST invested $50 million while Goldman Sachs invested $450 million. The remaining investment came from overseas shareholders participating in Goldman Sach’s Facebook investment vehicle. The social network says that it could have raised anywhere between $375 million and $1.5 billion from the investment vehicle, but decided in the end to limit the additional funding to $1 billion. Facebook says that it was approached by DST and Goldman Sachs about the potential investment, and “Facebook decided it was an attractive opportunity to bolster its cash reserves and increase its financial flexibility.” The social network also confirmed in its announcement that this transaction will give it over 500 shareholders, which will require Facebook to publicly disclose its financial results no later than April 30, 2012. Facebook says that it has no immediate plans for the $1.5 billion it has in its bank, though we believe it will use that money to buy the old Sun Microsystems campus in Menlo Park, expand its staff and accelerate its acquisition strategy. Excellence sells The massive majority of your competitors do not offer excellence. They may be average, good or even very good, but few businesses offer genuine excellence. Take a look at your competitors websites and you will see them offering an almost identical range of services and the same tired promises or guarantees. If one of them (say you) were to break out of that limited way of thinking, so you stood out for all the right reasons, you can own the marketplace; or at least the part where the most valuable clients are! Doing the right things, uncommonly well: That for me is the essence of every company I know, who provides true service excellence. We do anything in writing form, resume's, word documents, proposals, grants, curriculum vitae, press kits, articles, press releases... so do yourself a favor and don't wait to become as successful as you can be!

Looking back on it, I've noticed from an early age I committed myself to a life of life-long learning. I determined to read the text, books, attend the courses and do whatever was required, for me to be the best that I could be. With the power to learn basically anything on the net, free courses left and right (the library, non-profit orgs, workshops) I am more committed to learning than ever. I've received much satisfaction, added intellect and success due to embracing the fact that you can learn from anywhere, be it directly from man or from man written text. In my experience, learning, true learning, means more than just blindly accepting everything you read or hear from an expert. It means gathering information from the best sources you can find, and questioning what they say! I guess I learned this best at school as a journalism student where it was pounded over and over in my head to find all sides of the story to present the best possible conclusion, resolution, story. Those you see online, accepting and agreeing like drones with everything their gurus tell them, are learning nothing. They are simply gathering information, of often dubious value, from people who are just as fallible as you or I, and treating it as fact. I see the process like this.
There was definitely a lot of talent in the room... we laughed, got a lil steamy and chowed on some wine and cheese. This was all in the name of Elements: Uniting LGBTQ folk all day everyday. Man O... do I love my queer sistas and brothas, all the natural beauty was refreshing as well as the non-natural (ha)!
