Jabril's First words as the INtern!
I have a few questions I know you can’t answer.
I have a few thoughts, feelings, and a few things to say about the word freedom.
What does it mean to be “free“?
They say that America is the “ Land of the free, and home of the brave.”
But what does it mean to be free?
Are we really free?
Are we really what we say we are?
Or could it be we are so busy trying to be something we aren’t that we are too scared to face reality?
But who are you to say, that I cannot be something my ancestors have fought for since the beginning of time.
Yes this isn’t 1844.
A slave is what I refuse to be anymore.
According to Thomas Payne “Common Sense” should be the law of the land. According to the Constitution all men are created equal. No if’s, ands‘, or buts’. Plessy vs. Ferguson clearly stated that all men are not created equally.
That one man is better than the other because of his race, creed, color, religion, etc.
I often wonder where “We” as a people would be today if it wasn’t for the W.E.B. Dubois’ , and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King jr.’s.
Thank God for 1954, and Brown vs. Board of Education.
I thank God segregation was legally ended 56 years ago.
Is it still around? Yes.
Does racism still exist? Yes.
Just five years ago a southern town inside the ATL had it’s first integrated prom. Yes it’s first. Sad isn’t it?
I often ponder why people would segregate themselves from people just like them.
I noticed over the years as I look back.
A lot of people are afraid of change.
They’re scared of something new.
Something different.
They say it’s a one track world.
But you can’t prove that by me.
And, as long as I’m on this earth.
Show some RESPECT for me.
So still I ask………..
What is freedom?
Thank You
